The HTML files are generated from our master database. If you are looking for a specific individual, it is recommended that you start with the Surname List and click on the name you are interested in finding. That will take you to
the Name Index and display all the people with that Surname. After
determining which person you want, click on that name and you will be
taken to that name in the Descendants File.
The Surname List. This lists, in alphabetical order, every surname (last name) that appears in the database. Each name provides a link to the first individual of that surname in the Name Index. Below is the first part of the Surname List. NOTE: The illustrations below are not live links, but only illustrate how the index pages should be used. To access the actual index, use the link at the bottom of the page.
The Name Index. This is a single very large file. Because of this it may take several seconds, or even a few minutes, to display on your computer. It is an alphabetical listing (in surname order) of every individual in the Descendants File. Each individual provides a direct link to the location of that person in the Descendants File. Find the name you want (using the birth date is the easiest way to choose among multiple names), click on it and you will go directly to that individual. Below is a sample of the Name Index for the name "Longfellow".
The Descendants File. This is
actually a collection of several hundred files (HTML pages). They contain
the genealogical information on each Alden descendant, including name and
date and place of birth (and/or christening), marriage and death of that
individual, where known. Each page in the Descendants File shows two
generations - parents and children. Wherever additional information is
available, for instance for the next generation, the name of the
individual appears as a link. In a family grouping, the direct descendant
of John and Priscilla is shown first with his or her ancestry directly
back to John and Priscilla appearing next to the name. Each name in this
chain of ancestors is also a link to the next individual in this chain,
allowing you to work backwards all the way to John and Priscilla. Below is the listing in the Descendants File for the Longfellow family. You can easily follow the lineage back from Zilpha to Elizabeth and to John. If you click on any of these names in the actual file, you will be taken to his or her information. (These links are not active).
Below is the information for Henry Wadsworth.
